Quoting software for cabinet makers
Measure the runs in feet and the tops in square feet. The quote needs both, and so does the cut list underneath it.
Measured in: Linear feet for the runs, square feet for the tops, a count for tall units and hardware, and slabs on the takeoff.
Runs by the foot, tops by the square foot
Thirty-six feet of cabinetry and forty-eight square feet of countertop are two measurements off one kitchen and neither can be derived from the other. The island is part of both and the same rate as neither, because it is finished on four sides. A kitchen quoted at one rate per foot is wrong by whichever of the two it ignored, and it is usually the top.
Quartz is bought by the slab
Forty-eight feet of top does not cost eight-tenths of a slab. It costs a slab, and a kitchen that lands at fifty-three feet costs two. The waste factor on that row exists for exactly this, and the takeoff tells you how many slabs to order rather than how many square feet to hope for.
Elevations, a cut list, and a 3D kitchen the customer can look at
The cabinet studio is parametric: set the run, the carcass depth and the door style, drop it into the plan, and the quote prices itself from the same book. What comes out the other end is a cut list with board thickness, grain direction and edge banding on it — and a DXF if the saw wants one.
