Waste is not a rounding error
Cuts at the walls, the piece left at the end of a run and the plank that arrives chipped are the difference between the floor you measured and the floor you have to buy. The seeded book carries 8 per cent on plank and 12 on tile, because tile gets cut on two axes and the diagonal layouts get cut on three. Then it is rounded up to whole cartons, since that is how it is sold and half a carton of dye lot 42 is not a thing you can buy later.
Two lines that decide whether the job comes back
Underlayment with a vapour barrier, and a moisture test before any of it. A slab on grade releases moisture for years; laying over it without a barrier voids the manufacturer's warranty, and the owner finds out when the boards cup -- which is to say, finds out that it is your problem. Drawlite flags a floor covering quote that has preparation but no underlayment for exactly this reason.
